Korv Recipe

It is Christmas Time and for our family- That means it is time for a Smorgasbord! We invite all of my grandmothers family over and have a traditional Swedish Christmas! Sonja and My part of this huge feast is making the Korv, or Swedish Sausages. This year, Sonja was still in school so she sadly could not participate in the whole making ordeal, but I was able to and while doing so- I took pictures!

Here is the Recipe we follow:

1 lb Pork
1 lb Beef
4 Medium Potatoes
1 Medium Onion
1/4 tsp Ginger
1/2 tsp Allspice
1/4 tsp Pepper
1/4 tsp Cloves
1 tsp Sugar
1 tsp Salt

This is one (if not the only time) we use the KitchenAid. We use the the Food Grinder Accessory and the Sausage Stuffer.

First, mix the two different meats the potatoes, and the onion together by grinding them together in the large blade.

Next Stir in the remain ingredients and put through the large blade once again.

Then put them through the small blade for the final grinding.

Change the KitchenAid's Attachment to the Sausage Stuffer and slide your casing on. You will need about 6 feet of casing for all your sausages- however it will not fit on all at once. We found it easier to 3-4 sections. It is also important to cut string about 4 inches long to help your sausages hold there shape. We have been doing this for 4-5 years and we still need the string.

**You may find it helpful to have 2 people doing the next few steps- we use three people but you could probably manage with 2.**

Stuff the Sausages about 1 inch thick- or so and about 2-3 inches long.

At the end- send a piece of bread through the stuffer to get the remainder of the meat out.

To Cook- Simmer GENTLY for 45 minutes.

Enjoy!

Difference in Mediums

The way a piece of literature is presented greatly effects the way it is interpreted and the way that it received. A movie may receive higher publicity than a book, but if the book is the original way the story was meant to be shared, then it is usually the better one to look into. This is evidentiary true with the book, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

A Christmas Carol has been made into so many movies, musicals, and plays that it is hard to count them all. All of them have a slightly different approach to the story line, which affects the way it is received. For example, Disney came out with a movie version of the book in 2009 called, A Christmas Carol when that version is compared to the book there are some major differences that stand out.

In this film adaptation and most others, there is artistic freedom that is took to make this version stand out from the others. These spouts of artistic freedom vary from movie to movie, which is to be expected. In this specific version, the artistic freedom takes place in the form of the way the changed Scrooge is portrayed. As the audio stays very close to that of the books, the visual portrayal of the changed Scrooge is different. The changed Scrooge in the 2009 version is quite more animated then the way the book has him. In the movie, he slides across rooftops, dances with the housekeeper, and slides down the street holding on to the back of a carriage was all fabricated and was created to make the movie more appealing to the audience. This effects the telling of the story by giving the reader an already implied idea of what Scrooge was like as a changed man, even though the book does not specifically tell us it exactly.

The 1992 version of A Christmas Carol- The Muppet Christmas Carol, takes artistic freedom by making the movie a musical and adding a comedic twist to the original plot. These twist from the movie effect the telling of the story because they are adding into what Charles Dickens originally wrote and slowly are going away from what he intended the readers to understand.

When something is presented in a different medium then what is was intended things are perceived differently. Charles Dickens wrote the story as a book and in the book was all the content that you need to interpret the story for yourself. When a book is transformed into a movie, the interpretation is done for you and there is not much left for you to analyze and make your own realizations and theories. The movie directors and writers do that for you, which is why most people tend to like to watch a movie rather than read a book because watching a movie requires a less substantial amount of thinking and analyzing when compared to reading. When you are reading you are free to make your own ideas about a character without anyone else’s preset notions about what they think who the character is, whereas in a movie you have someone else visual portrayal in front of you and that normally clouds your own thinking because they have already done that. In both movie versions of A Christmas Carol Scrooge is shown for you, but in the book, you have no visual, physical picture of what Charles Dickens was thinking when he wrote it, rather it is up to you to picture Ebenezer Scrooge for yourself with only the facts that Mr. Dickens gives us.

The way that a story is presented truly affects the way the story is told and the way it is received. Do you agree? Leave a Comment with your thoughts

Conflicted Feelings

Do you have that one person in your life that you are not sure whether you are happy or sad to see them. Seeing them makes you happy and excited- but it also makes them sad thinking about all the memories and fun you used to have? I have been having this internal battle for a few days now. I am struggling to get over my hurt and continue the friendship. I have realized how much this person has impacted me and feel as if I should tell them but I have no clue how without making them feel bad that they left. Any suggestions?

Hoilday Decorating

It's December! And that means that is time for Decking the Halls and Spreading some good old Holiday Cheer! Our family started off by picking out our Christmas Tree, well I picked it out, on December 1st. Sonja was off meeting Aly Raisman... I guess I can see how that trumps Christmas Tree Decorating for some- but not for this girl! (A side note- I love Aly and the Fab Five and if I had better knees- I would have gone- I just like giving Sonja a hard time)

We had our tree all decorated and Christmas Cookies were baked by the end of the day! I felt so productive! Then on December 8 we did the same thing at our Dad's house! It was a blast! We had a dance Party and Sing-A-Long while baking. Ryan and I sang Good Time by Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City. It was an awesome day!

How is your Holiday Season Going? Have you got a tree yet?

Freebies and Samples

I started posting pictures on Facebook of many of the items I was getting for free (like the photo below) - and that generated some questions on how I got these things. I thought I would answer these questions once with this blog post.

I began my interest in receiving free items a few years ago- but never to the extent that I am involved in it now. About two months ago I saw this post on Pinterest. I got all excited- as what teenager doesn't love coupons! I started off by sitting down one Sunday afternoon and sending emails to everyone of those companies which my family uses. Out of those 30 or so emails I got 3 coupons. Now that I think about it- that is not a great odd- however I was very excited. I began to research if there were other things I could get coupons for or even for free.

I quickly found a few websites that have become my go-to resources for learning about freebies and samples. I use Vonbeau, My Free Product Samples, Freebie Shark, and I Crave Freebies. I do not have the time or the skill to go and search the Internet to find my own freebies, so I use these as my guides. I get so excited when I find an awesome new freebie or deal! I am working on the rest of my family- they tend to just role their eyes.

After I began and started ordering samples after samples- I lost track of what I was ordering and from where. That is when Genius Me decided it would be a brilliant idea to start a spreadsheet. Now this spreadsheet stays open at the bottom of my computer screen and I love to go and look at it often! I get so excited seeing what I may get next! So far I have reached row 78 so I will have a boat load of stuff coming in soon!

I also am a member of Swagbucks, Recyclebank, and Smiley 360. I love Swagbucks and Recyclebank! I am very new to Smiley 360- so when I get more equipped with it I will let you know how it is! With Swagbucks I have earned 2 $5 Amazon Gift Cards for free! Using Recyclebank, I have earned 1 magazine subscription and am close to getting another Amazon Gift Card! :) Both are TOTALLY FREE! What is better than that?! :)

I think that is all I have to say about my freebies and samples. One Tip I leave you with is- make a separate email account so that you do not have all these emails in your personal account! I have found this an easy way to separate the things I will read first from the things that I can read later! If you have any questions, or comments, or you have personally received free items, Let me know by leaving a comment or sending us an email!

Blogging

I love blogging- but you probably cannot tell because I rarely do it... Why do I rarely do it? Because using my computer is a huge hassle! As simple as that- I have so many pictures on my computer and I don't have room for more- plus using my iPhone is SO much easier! But to be frank- the blogger app STINKS! :) I can't edit where the pictures go, where the text is, the layout- and there is also this annoying little icon that covers up words... Bad layout! Any suggestions for a better app?

Fourth of July Tip!

So you get up early and set your blankets out in the best place possible to watch the fireworks, you come back 10 hours later and the wind has blown your blankets in a pile behind a tree. What do you do? I don't know about your town but in ours, you can't use stake or rocks to hold down your blanket to watch the fireworks.

Last year as we rushed out early in the morning to get our spot, we saw one family had a brilliant idea! Take water bottles, the ones you can recycle/throw away, and fill them with water- put food coloring in them so people don't think they are trash, and put them on the corners of the blanket- when you come back later remove them and recycle or throw them out and your blanket has stayed put! Hallelujah! No longer dodging a tree to see the spectacular fireworks!

Happy 4th!,

But today I wanted to share something that made me really happy today- I did a split! You most won't understand why I am so excited... So I will tell you. I have been out of gymnastics for about 3 years now and I just tried to do one and it was almost perfect. So that is my happy moment today. Check out the picture...

Morals

Hey! So school is almost over for me and it is so crazy right now that I haven't had time to blog! But today I was thinking and I wanted to share my thoughts with you!

Why have I set my morals and standard so high?

I have only worn skirts for about 4 years. Why? Because I feel it is more modest. I love skirts and everyone I know knows that I only wear them- so going back to pants would be weird- especially for me. On top of wearing only skirts- I make sure all my tops are not to revealing. I actually wore a dress just last night that was beautiful by societys standards and my family agreed but I felt so uncomfortable in it- why? Because of the cut of the dress and the looseness up top. I looked pretty but does that come before comfort and my morals?

Does the rest of my family only wear skirts and always wear sleeves? No. Sonja is very conscious in the sense that she makes sure things go past her knees- she often calls me out on things that hit my knee or are slightly above it. I have trouble finding stylish things that hit my knees because of my height and build. Our mom respects my conviction to wear skirts which is nice but she herself wears pants. We are all quite strong in the modest neckline area though.

Why do I only wear skirts?

Because I want to be modestly dressed and not cause my brethren in Christ to sin. Simple as that. :D

So this blog post is sporadic and random but that is what makes it Spaztastic!

It's Me Finally!!

Hey!!! Sorry I haven't been blogging lately!! This time of year is really busy for me! It's almost the end of school, as of today we only have 15 or 16 more school days left I forget how many exactly! But the last week of school is always a fun week too because the 8th graders are away and we get to go and have lots of fun!!

I also have my dance recital this weekend so rehearsals for that have been keeping be rather busy! Being at dance for about 4 hours some nights can be a little tiring but at least it's something that I love!

So I will try to post more often as things start to slow down into summer.

Sorry about the rambling!!

How to Get a Toddler to Paint Their Hand

Or as it actuatly stands, how to let a Toddler let YOU paint their hand.

Well I don't know about the toddlers you know but my 1/2 brother, who is almost 3, doesn't like to get messy. He is ok with playing in the dirt but doesn't like things on his hand. So when it was time to make a hand print for Mother's Day- he was ok until I said that I was going to paint his hand. He ran into his cave.

So what did I do? I paniced for a moment then had the idea to have him paint mine first! He chose the color for mine- purple- and then I started to paint my hand and offered him a paintbrush. I put the paint on my hand and then he continued to help. We put my hand on the canvas and he pushed my hand down and then helped me wash my hands.

Now it was his turn. He was actualy VERY excited to do his now! He chose the color and I asked if I could paint his hand- he said yes. So I painted his hand and then we counted to 3 and placed it on the canvas. I told him not to move it and I pressed down to make sure I had it all down. We then lifted it up and I carried him to the bathroom to wash his hand.

They came out BEAUTIFUL! :) We have 1 more hand to do and then we will have a set of 3- One of each of us!

A Saturday for Sarah

So what does a Saturday look like for me? Let me share! Today I woke up around 7:15am and watched the pilot of Once Upon a Time on my phone because only a billion people have told me to watch it! :) I called my dad and talked to my 1/2 brother on FaceTime. I finally got out of bed to eat a breakfast of pineapple around 9:30. My day began officially then. I finished my breakfast and went up stairs to the computer for about 15 minutes then I went downstairs and did dishes and cleaned other things in the kitchen until 3 PM. There were a lot of Dishes!!! I unloaded the dishwasher then ran icy, unloaded and reloaded it all within that time period ALONG with washing at least 50+ dishes by hand... Our kitchen was a MESS! :) (I also cleaned the microwave) I did eat lunch today at 1:45 so I was somewhat well fueled! When I finished, I went upstairs and watched 1.5 episodes of Touch and then packed for a overnight stay at my Grandparents house. (mom and Sonja are doing the Walk for Hunger tomorrow and I need a ride to church) We went to eat at the Country Club with my grandmother, then came back to her house to watch the Kentucky Derby. Every year we gather in A living room and pick our horses by their names and then cheer them on during the race. We wear hats of many different styles- my mom wore a flamingo hat to give you an idea. :) Then my mom and sister went back home and I have been sitting on my grandmothers couch ever since! Below is a collage of my day...

Our Garden: Spring Addition

We live in this lovely house in a town. And in front of this house, there is a lovely garden. The garden reflects our lives. Amid the weeds, that we don't have time to pick, there are beautiful flowers. We love our garden like we love each other. We get mad at it because there may be an overwhelming amount of leaves one day but the next there is a blooming ocean of colors and flowers. Still there are weeds because life is full of them. Sour people you may meet, unpleasant events in your life, and unwelcome mishaps but together they put together a beautiful garden called life. So thank the LORD, you breath and you live because of him! Praise the Lord.
This Year's #1 Picture So far...

I love the perspective on this one!

Philippians 3:8-11

Last night as I was preparing for Sunday School, I fell in love with this passage! In Sunday School, we do a study on the passage that the pastor is preaching on that way we are much more prepared for the sermon. We are currently going through the book of Philippians.

8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in[a] Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. 10 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.

This passage is so full of encouragement and advice! I found it such a blessing and I was awestruck, as I often am with how Great a God I serve. He works in wonderous ways! I needed to hear these works and I need this message and what did God do? He put it right under my nose! As I studied this passage and read it in CONTEXT, (Context is King is it not?!) I discovered the true Principle of the passage and that is what I will leave you with!

Strive to live like Christ, because He saved you! Don't worry about what people will say about you/us because of our Faith; YOU have CHRIST and that is ALL that matters!

Product Review- Udi's Gluten Free Three Cheese Pizza

So last night my wonderful mom and I tried Udi's Gluten Free Three Cheese Pizza. And I was greatly disapointed.
The Pizza Box

When we opened the package we were quite surprised, the pizza was much smaller than the box led us to believe.
The Cardboard it came on... Smaller than the box and the pizza was smaller too.

The sauce was too spicy for my taste too. It says on the box "Straight Up Cheesy Lovin" but frankly there wasn't that much cheese! I will admit that I like my sauce mild and a LOT of cheese (Sarah is smiling at that!) but it fell short of my expectations. Have you tried it? What do you think? Leave a comment below!

I baked a cake

So today was 2 of my friends from churches birthdays. So what did I do? I baked a cake! I split it in half so that they each had a side... :) they loved it and it tasted really good! :) Barbara likes to garden so I filled her side with flowers and on Bob's side I put a tennis court with a tennis net made out of melted chocolates because he likes to play tennis. What do you think?! ;)

The completed cake

my shirt looked like when I was done decorating and baking... I was a mess! :)

Barbara's Side of the cake
Bob's side of the cake
A close up on the tennis net I made. It stood up in the frosting and was made out of melted chocolates.

My Camera

So if you have been following my blog for a little bit you will know that I have a new camera! It is a Canon T2i! And I LOVE it! :) Before it I had just a point and shoot so this is an awesome step up! I am loving every moment with it.

All of the pictures you have  seen (so far) are taken with the t2i (Since Christmas 2011) with a standard lens. (18-55mm) I hope soon to get a new lens- possibly 2! I do have a small studio in my bedroom. I will include pictures of it soon! I now have studio lighting too! :) I also have a Fisheye Lens too but I don't think I have posted any pictures of it so far...

I have a multitude of different filters so I don't know which ones were used when in each picture. I have Starbursts, Macro,UV, Florescent, Polarizing, Rainbow, Prism... a few others too. :) I was truly blessed that when I got a DLSR my grandmother gave me her old camera accessories! (Thanks Meem!) They were made for a 52mm but some are 58mm and they make step up adapters and step down adapters which is wonderful! I love my camera! I hope to keep posting picutes up and I hope you will keep taking the time to look and comment on them!

As for other acessories... I have a remote shutter release, and a tripod. Not to exciting but still fun!

New Dress!

I LOVE to sew! I love it! :) So when I first found Pinterest I feel head over heels in love with this dress! I finally made it! What do you think?! I LOVE IT! :)
The Front

The Back
I finally learned how to use Photoshop enough to twirl my face out! Yay! hehe!

The dress took me about 1 and 1/2 hours to make... not bad. I have never made any piece of clothing from start to finish all by myself and I did this time so I am very happy! I hemmed it too! :)  A first for many things! :) It was super fun and a wonderful learning experience! If you want more specifics let me know!

Circle Bead Bracelet Tutorial

So I have a new tutorial for you!!! Wahoo! I pulled out one of my old designs and decided that you may like to see how I make it! I love this design! I used to wear it every day when I was around 7 years old. I designed it then. Its cute and easy!
Here is the finished product... :)

What you need:
Beads
Beading Thread
Scissors
A Clasp

To Start, cut a piece of thread 3 inches longer than 2x the length of your wrist.
To start thread 8 beads on to the center of your thread. Then take one of the ends of beads and thread it through the center of the last bead on the opposite thread. (Confusing language but look at the picture...) Make sure that your beads are in the CENTER of your thread otherwise your bracelet will be completely off!

Pull tight.
Next, Put 4 beads on one end of the thread and 3 on the other.
Like we did before, only this time it matters which one you stick through the center! Take the thread that has 3 beads on it and stick it through the 4th bead on the other thread.
Continue! At this point I realized that I did not want to be sitting there doing this all night because I was using seed beads and they were way to tiny. SO I did 3 of these circles and then moved on to E beads because they are bigger. You can do what ever you want- you can do them all small or all big or mix them up!
Here is my transition to the bigger beads. I like these ones better...they don't make as nice circles but I think that was just me. :) (just keep going)
I kept going with the big beads and then I switched back to the smaller ones so it would look like I did it on purpose.
Tada! All you need to do now is tie it off and add a clasp!

All Done!

So what do you think? Is there something else you want me to post about? Let me know!!! :)

Small Duct Tape Rose Tutorial

So I previously posted pictures of my duct tapes flowers and someone commented saying they liked the small roses. So I made up this tutorial for you!

What you need:
  • Scissors or X-Acto Knife
  • Duct Tape
  • Ruler or Cutting Mat
  • Fingers

I used a X-acto Knife, and a cutting mat.

To Start- Rip/Cut a piece of Duct Tape off about 10 inches long

Cut the Strip of Duct Tape into about 1 inch by 1 inch squares

Fold the 1 corner of the duct tape on to the stick side so that it forms an "L" shape of sticky.

Fold the 1 of the stick sides onto the already folded duct tape. It will make a triangle of duct tape

Fold the rest of the Squares.

To start your duct tape rose, roll the 1 of the triangles into a cylinderish shape.

Keep adding petals around to form the flower. (It will take a few pictures for you to get your technique
mastered.)

Tada! You made a duct tape flower. To make a larger one, just make the squares bigger. Have Fun and Good luck!!!
